When Toyin Kolawole started Iya Foods, she had a vision of providing nourishing, African foods that use ingredients sourced from Nigeria and the US. Her passion for healthy eating connects to her Nigerian roots. Having grown up in Nigeria, Toyin immediately noticed the difference between African foods and American foods that contain preservatives and artificial ingredients. She set out to make a difference by providing alternative flours like cassava and plantain and vegetable powders.
During this episode, Toyin told us about how COVID-19 impacted her company’s business. Being a food manufacturer, Iya Foods experienced a spike in business and is using this increase in sales to give back. She also brought us some great insight on the many ways that spices can boost immunity which is crucial during this health crisis.
We talked about Iya Foods’ bestsellers like her pepper soup and peri-peri seasoning. Toyin also gave us insight into how she creates her African spices and seasonings. She also brings perspective on foods that care for her body as she has gotten older.
